Family Law Counselling 

Separation and relationship issues can be an emotional and stressful time and it is important that you look after yourself to try and keep stress to a minimum. To assist you our family law counselling service is available.

Our family law counselling service is family counselling provided under the Family Law Act 1975 and is for individuals (including children), couples or families to assist with personal and family issues, including those relating to the care of children. As this service is provided under the requirements of the Family Law Act the Australian Government has provided further information, available here.

Our family counsellors are experienced and skilled in dealing with the challenges that are faced by families. Some of these challenges can include:

  • relationship separation and divorce;
  • considering what is in the best interests of your children and reaching decisions that support the best outcomes for your children;
  • reaching agreements for living arrangements;
  • being able to co-parent effectively;
  • managing the impact of family and domestic violence;
  • navigating the options available and finding alternatives to formal legal processes; and/or;
  • communicating effectively as a couple or family.

The benefits of counselling will vary from one family to the next. The benefits may include:

  • providing a focus on the best interests of children
  • developing healthy boundaries
  • improving communication
  • defining someone’s role within the family
  • improving family relationships and interactions even after separation
  • providing coping tools for family members
  • providing strategies to assist families to solve problems

Our Staff

We have a team of qualified and experienced psychologists and counsellors. All clinical staff undertake professional supervision and on-going training to ensure a high quality of service. Our therapists use a range of counselling approaches, based on what is appropriate for the family and their particular issues.

How much will family counselling cost?

Family law counselling services are on a fee for service basis. In the North and North East of Tasmania, Positive Solutions receives funding from the Attorney General’s Department for this service and fees are based on your income. Do you provide services over the phone or online?

In most instances counselling face-to-face is most effective but we know that sometimes you may not be able to visit one of our locations. To organise counselling support via phone or online please contact us.
