How do I access Psychological services?
You do not need a referral to access psychological support at Positive Solutions. However if you are referred via your GP with a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan our registered psychologists are Medicare registered meaning that Medicare benefits are available.
The service is delivered in our Hobart office. Tele-health appointments are also available via phone and video conference.
How do I get a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan?
This involves attending an appointment with your GP to discuss your issue/s and whether a Mental Health Treatment Plan may be suitable. A GP can determine whether you have a mental disorder and help you to develop a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan.
How many sessions am I entitled to?
There are no limits to the number of sessions you are able to access, however there are limits under Medicare.
Where you have been referred under a Mental Health Treatment Plan Medicare benefits are available for up to 10 sessions each calendar year of focussed psychological strategies services. Please note, your G.P. can advise you whether there are additional sessions available due to COVID-19.
Your G.P. will state in your referral the initial number of sessions that will be provided, which will be up to six sessions. After you have used these sessions, you can attend your GP for a review and decide whether to use your additional sessions.
Sessions can be between 20 – 50 minutes or 1 hour in length
If you have been GP referred under a Mental Health Care Plan, the Medicare rebate covers a specific amount of the value of your session. Please contact us to find out more about pricing and the “gap” (out of pocket expenses) you might need to pay. Please note that Positive Solutions does not bulk bill.
Where you are not accessing this service under a GP Mental Health Care Plan you maybe eligible to claim this service through your private Health Insurer. Any rebate from your Health Fund is subject to the level of your cover. You will be provided a receipt at the end of your session which can be used to lodge a claim with your Health Insurer.
We require a minimum of 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Cancellation and/or rescheduling fees are:
- Less than 24 hours notice will incur the full session fee.
- Less than 48 hours notice but more than 24 hours notice incurs a fee of 50% of the session fee.
A Medicare rebate is not available for cancelled sessions.
How do I make an appointment?
You do not need a referral to book in with a psychologist at Positive Solutions. However to be entitled to receive a rebate from Medicare you must have a GP referred Mental Health Care Treatment Plan.
